A strong mental wellness isn’t just the absence of mental health problems. Being mentally or emotionally healthy is much more than being free of depression, anxiety, or other psychological disorder. Rather than the absence of mental illness, mental health refers to the presence of positive characteristics.
People who exhibit high level of mental prowess are people who are deliberate about their mental health and wellness. Over the years, studies have shown that all humans are born with diverse kind of intelligence, but constant and deliberate effort towards maintaining mental health keeps the mind strong and alert.
People with positive mental health have many qualities like sense of contentment, zest for living and the ability to laugh and have fun, the ability to deal with stress and bounce back from adversity, a sense of meaning and purpose, in both their activities and their relationships, the flexibility to learn new skills and adapt to change and so on.
Having solid mental health doesn’t mean that you never go through bad times or experience emotional problems. We all go through disappointments, loss, and change. And while these are normal parts of life, they can still cause sadness, anxiety, and stress. But just as physically healthy people are able to bounce back from illness or injury, people with strong mental health are also able to bounce back from adversity, trauma and failure.
People who are emotionally and mentally resilient have the tools for coping with difficult situations and maintaining a positive outlook. They remain focused, flexible, and productive, in bad times as well as good.
Mental health includes our social, psychological and emotional well-being. It’s affects how we think, function and contribute to our work place, religious circle etc. Mental health is the ability and capacity of an individual to deal effectively with stress, pressure and challenges and still perform effectively with accurate result. We often neglect our mental well-being without awareness. In today’s world, many of us are often reluctant to address our mental health needs, which is as a result of various reasons. For instance, in some societies, mental and emotional issues are seen as less legitimate than physical issues. They’re seen as a sign of weakness or somehow as being our own fault. Some people mistakenly see mental health problems as something we should know how to ignore. Some people, especially Nigerian fathers, would often rather bottle up their feelings rather than seek help. In our fast-paced world, we’re obsessed with seeking quick and simple answers to complex problems. We look for connection with others compulsorily scrolling through social media instead of reaching out to people in the real world.
A deliberate focus on building mental strength solely relies on constant effort to improve and maintain mental wellbeing, and some of the ways we can do that cannot be overemphasized. For example, fixing our diet, daily physical exercise, drinking lots of water per day, meditation, involving in discussions and lot more.
Finally, improving mental health and wellness provides mental strength and as result allows for effectiveness in every aspect of life.
